RUMAH volunteers have prioritized community feedback and outreach since the beginning. From our original Community Needs & Input surveys to tabling at external events, our volunteers have consistently committed countless hours in the pursuit of community involvement. The goals and projects of RUMAH teams have been directly informed by feedback collected through in-person and online surveys, conversations with residents and other local collectives and organizations, as well as internal conversations with RUMAH volunteers and folks attending events at The Hub.

Before RUMAH found a physical location, our volunteers tabled at many events around the community, spoke with countless other groups and organizers in the area, and held multiple Q&A and listening sessions (shout out to Videri Chocolate Factory for being our host for those early events!). Once RUMAH secured the location at 415 Hillsborough (The Hub), our volunteers put together a huge music and arts festival to connect with residents while raising funds for the new space - check out the highlight video from our first big fundraiser below!
Since then, RUMAH volunteers have tabled at a ton of community events throughout the area, like at the Another Carolina Anarchist Bookfair in Asheville NC, hosted by Firestorm Books, or at OUT! Raleigh Pride hosted by the LGBT Center of Raleigh, NC, as well as many smaller events, concerts, drag shows, family days, and more.
Earlier this summer, our volunteers decided to form a dedicated Outreach Team to better organize, prepare, and strategize our outreach and networking efforts. Since then, we’ve been able to table at even more events and expand our reach. When RUMAH volunteers table at an event, we’re able to speak directly about our mission and current projects, connect with residents and hear from them on gaps in our programs or what other needs we could be addressing, and connect with other organizations with similar goals so we can share knowledge and resources! We also bring free items for distribution such as resource-based and educational zines, food and drinks, stickers, buttons, emergency contraceptive, condoms, and more!
